Skyline Nissan – New single belt drive for power steering and external oil pump with a piggy back fuel pump drive

RACING has developed a drive system that takes all the worry out of driving essential engine components and the fear of power steering belts coming off and the old problem of standard oil pump failure causing super-expensive engine repair bills.

This picture shows our set of ROSS RACING HTD toothed pulleys mounted to a common drive on the front of the Harmonic balancer. The belt is retained using a taper sided washer on the front of the drive.

Both the external oil pump and the power steering pump are running at ½ engine speed, this is especially helpful in the prevention of the belts flying off the engine.

By the way this is the same drive ratio as the cam shafts.

Also shown in the picture is our Crank trigger and CAS replacement Housing for use with the kit when using our hall sensors.

1UZFE Harmonic balancer

This is a 2000 hp Harmonic balancer we have for use on serious race engines.

1UZFE Harmonic balancer

Our bonded Balancers never need rebuilding or pulling apart for a service. So with regard to the rubber side of things they are held together and dampened with a high quality, high tensile natural rubber.

The rest of the balancer is made from 2 materials, the hubs are made from a 40 tonne tensile carbon steel for turbo or N/A engines, we have an option for blown applications, this can be either 4340 steel, or Titanium.

The next feature is for accessory mounting. The front of all our balancers are also drilled with 6 x M8 which take a direct fit of one of our external oil pump drives or fuel pump drives . In some cases 6 x 3/8” UNF threads and either an external or internal spigot for location of other pullies . This 1UZFE  balancer has both allowing a 2 inch adaptor to drive a roots or PSI blower.

MJRace balancers/dampers are made from the highest grades of materials that don’t break.

For Naturally aspirated and turbo engines the crank hubs are made from 7075 aerospace alloy.

But in the case of supercharged engines 4340 alloy steel is used for the crank hubs.

The accessory drive pulley ratios are mostly between 10% and 25% underdrive.

This prevents engine overheating , alternator and power steering failures due to overspeed.These harmonic balancers / crank pulley dampers are made to suit ANDRA requirements and meets sfi rules If your engine regularly sees RPM between 10% and 20% more than standard and you are racing on the track doing multi lap events, using fuel cuts and rev limiters in the programming of your engine, as well as rapid accelleration and decelleration then you will need a race series balancer / damper.

What is a Crank Damper

crank damperYou might be wary of hanging a heavy hunk of metal on the front of your crankshaft, but a quality racing crank damper will actually produce horsepower and help your engine live longer.

What Does A Crank Damper do?

Crank dampers absorb (damp) the torsional vibration of the crankshaft to prevent the failure of the crankshaft by fatigue.

Crank dampers improve the Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) charartristics of the vehicle prodiving an overall enhanced driving experience.

Why Do your Need A Crank Damper?

A harmonic balancer (also called crank pulley damper, crank damper, crankshaft damper, torsional damper, or vibration damper) is a device connected to the crankshaft of an engine to reduce torsional vibration and serves as a pulley for drive belts.

Every time the cylinders fire, torque is imparted to the crankshaft. The crankshaft deflects under this torque, which sets up vibrations when the torque is released. At certain engine speeds the torques imparted by the cylinders are in synch with the vibrations in the crankshaft, which results in a phenomenon called resonance. This resonance causes stress beyond what the crankshaft can withstand, resulting in crankshaft failure. A crank damper helps to prevent this

To prevent this vibration, a Crank Damper is attached to the front part of the crankshaft. The crank damper is composed of two elements: a mass and an energy dissipating element. The mass resists the acceleration of the vibration and the energy dissipating (rubber/clutch/fluid) element absorbs the vibrations.

Additionally the energy transferred from the piston to the crankshaft can induce as much as 2 degrees of twist in the crankshaft, which has many follow-on effects on all engine elements that require adequate timing such as valve opening, cam timing, ignition timing etc.

Over time, the energy dissipating (rubber/clutch/fluid) element can deteriorate from age, heat, cold, or exposure to oil or chemicals. Unless rebuilt or replaced, this can cause the crankshaft to develop cracks, resulting in crankshaft failure.

MJ Race Series : Engineered to suit andra requirements and meets sfi rules. Suitable for extreme circuit & drag racing.

Metal Jacket : Engineered to suit andra requirements and meets sfi rules. Not suitable for extreme circuit & drag racing.

Nexus : Engineered to suit andra requirements and meets sfi rules without the refinements of the Metal Jacket range.

Reconditioned Balancers / Dampers:

Street Performer Series : High performance replacement made of billet steel.

Heavy Duty : Both the SP series and HD series are designed & priced as direct replacements for a damaged balancers / dampers. Both using standard belts ands accessory drives.
